My Top 10 NFL Players Who Never Won A Super Bowl!
Story by Mitchell Smith
The NFL is in full swing so today I’m taking a look at the top 10 NFL Players Who Never Won a Super Bowl. Despite remarkable careers filled with individual accolades, some of the greatest players in NFL history never hoisted the Lombardi Trophy. I guess winning isn’t everything. Here are my top 10 NFL picks.
Number 10 Junior Seau (LB, San Diego Chargers/New England Patriots). Seau was the heart and soul of the San Diego Chargers’ defense for over a decade. A ferocious linebacker known for his intensity and leadership, led the Chargers to Super Bowl XXIX, but they fell to the San Francisco 49ers.
Number 9. Tony Gonzalez (TE, Kansas City Chiefs/Atlanta Falcons). Gonzalez is widely considered the greatest tight end in NFL history. Over 17 seasons, he redefined the position with his ability to create mismatches as both a receiver and a blocker. Despite his durability and dominance, Gonzalez’s teams never reached a Super Bowl. He finished his career as the NFL’s all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards by a tight end.
Number 8. Jim Kelly (QB Buffalo Bills). Kelly led the Bills to 4 straight Super Bowls. Kelly who ran a no huddle offense named the K-Gun was instrumental moving the ball and keeping defenses on their heals. Although Kelly and the Bills lost all 4 straight Super Bowls it is still a notch in his belt that he got them there 4 straight times, something no other team has done.
Number 7. Alan Page (DT Minnesota Vikings/Chicago Bears). Page was the first defensive player to win NFL MVP. Page who was part of the Purple People Eaters was 1 of 11 players to be on all 4 Super Bowl teams that fell short and set a record for most Super Bowl appearances without a championship.
Number 6. Cris Carter (WR, Philadelphia Eagles/Minnesota Vikings). Carter was renowned for his precise route running, incredible hands, and ability to make clutch catches. He retired as the NFL’s second-leading receiver in both receptions and touchdowns. Carter spent most of his prime with the Minnesota Vikings, who fielded competitive teams but could never make it to the Super Bowl.
Number 5 Bruce Smith (DE, Buffalo Bills/Washington Football Team)
Smith is the NFL’s all-time leader in sacks (200). A relentless pass-rusher with a rare combination of speed and strength, Smith was a cornerstone of the Buffalo Bills’ defense during their four consecutive Super Bowl appearances. The Bills tied the Vikings for 4 Super Bowls lost and set a record by loosing 4 in a row.
Number 4 Fran Tarkenton (QB, Minnesota Vikings/New York Giants).
Tarkenton was a pioneer of the mobile quarterback, known for his scrambling ability. Over a 17-year career, he passed for 47,003 yards and 342 touchdowns. Tarkenton led the Vikings to three Super Bowl appearances, but they came up short in each game.
Number 3 Randy Moss (WR, Minnesota Vikings/New England Patriots). Moss was one of the most dominant deep threats in NFL history. Moss set the NFL single-season record for touchdown receptions (23) in 2007 with the Patriots, helping lead them to a 16-0 regular season. However, despite appearing in two Super Bowls, Moss never captured a ring.
Number 2 Dan Marino (QB, Miami Dolphins).
Marino is Widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, his ability to throw the football revolutionized the position. He was the first quarterback to pass for over 5,000 yards in a single season. Marino led the Miami Dolphins to a Super Bowl appearance in his second season, but the Dolphins fell to the San Francisco 49ers. Despite playing for 17 seasons, Marino never returned to the Super Bowl.
Number 1 Barry Sanders (RB, Detroit Lions). Sanders was an electrifying running back, known for his cuts, elusiveness, and balance. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his 10 seasons in the NFL and led the league in rushing four times. Despite his individual brilliance, the Detroit Lions rarely fielded competitive teams, and Sanders never reached a Super Bowl.
Despite never bringing home the big win these players poured their heart and soul into the game and their legacy’s will all live on because of who they were on the field regardless of the outcome of the big game. Have a great week everybody.
