Operation: Recall: The Ultimate Collectible Action Figures Lineup

In a world where nostalgia and creativity converge, Operation: Recall emerges as a beacon for action figure enthusiasts and collectors alike. The brainchild of Carson Mataxis and G.I. Joe Brand legends Ron Rudat, Larry Hama and more, this ambitious project is not just about recreating classic toys but also about reimagining them with modern flair and detailed storytelling. The excitement surrounding the Year One lineup is palpable, and for good reason. With 19 meticulously designed figures, each available via BackerKit, this collection promises to be a treasure trove for fans of all ages.
A Stellar Lineup and a Star-Studded Team
Carson Mataxis, the driving force behind Operation: Recall, shared an exciting update:
“There are 19 figures in the year one lineup. All are available still via BackerKit. I will not be coordinating signed figures, but I do plan on hosting the whole team at JoeFest in 2025 and there will be signatures galore. Larry Hama has already written detailed dossiers for each character. We have plotted and scripted a very exciting 8 issue arc that I hope to be able to fund. The line will go as long as it is profitable, which is still yet to be determined.”
This statement underscores the depth and ambition of the project. The involvement of Larry Hama, a legendary writer known for his work on G.I. Joe, adds a layer of narrative richness. Each character in the lineup has a detailed dossier, ensuring that these figures are not just toys, but characters with rich backstories and personalities.
Discover the Figures
For those eager to see these figures, the Roll Call page is the ultimate destination. It not only showcases all 19 figures but also highlights the creative minds behind their designs. According to Mataxis,
“All 19 figures can be seen on the Roll Call page, and that identifies who completed the design work for each figure as well as just a little bit about each character.”
This transparency and acknowledgment of the designers’ hard work add a personal touch to the project, making it even more appealing to collectors who appreciate the artistry involved.
Meet the Creative Team
The creative team behind Operation: Recall reads like a who’s who of the toy industry. The design work has been helmed by Ron A. Rudat and Mark Pennington, names synonymous with excellence in toy design. Their combined expertise ensures that each figure is not only visually stunning but also faithful to the spirit of classic action figures.
Accessories, often the unsung heroes of action figures, have been meticulously sculpted by Mark G. Gerwig. His attention to detail ensures that each accessory complements the figures perfectly, adding to their playability and display appeal.
The figures themselves have been sculpted by Mike Good and Bill Merklein, two masters of their craft. Although some revisions are still underway, the initial sculpts promise to be nothing short of spectacular.
Packaging is another critical aspect of any collectible, and Douglas Hart is the artist responsible for bringing the packaging to life. With more than half of the package art completed, including the recently delivered Clanker and Tank, collectors can expect artwork that is as dynamic and engaging as the figures themselves.
Paintmasters, the final touch in bringing these figures to life, are being handled by Matthew LeCroy and Chris Scott. Their expertise ensures that each figure’s paint job will be vibrant and true to the character’s essence.
Stay Updated and Get Involved
For the latest updates and to see the presentation art by Ron Rudat and Mark Pennington, as well as Doug Hart’s package paintings, the Roll Call page is the place to be. It’s a visual feast that offers a glimpse into the painstaking work that goes into each figure.
Backers who want to update their orders can do so through the Operation: Recall BackerKit page. This platform not only allows backers to manage their orders but also provides an opportunity for new supporters to join the Operation: Recall Army.
Looking Ahead to JoeFest 2025
JoeFest 2025 is set to be a landmark event for Operation: Recall. Carson Mataxis has expressed his intention to host the entire team at this event, providing fans with a unique opportunity to meet the creators and get their figures signed. The excitement doesn’t end there; JoeFest will also be the stage for unveiling the paintmasters, giving attendees the first look at the finished figures.
Operation: Recall is more than just a toy line; it’s a celebration of creativity, nostalgia, and storytelling. With a stellar team of designers, sculptors, and artists, and the backing of passionate fans, this project is poised to be a significant milestone in the world of action figures. Whether you’re a long-time collector or a newcomer, Operation: Recall promises to ignite your imagination and bring a piece of toy history into your hands.
