The POP EXPOSE ‘Stranger Things’ by Mitchell Smith!

Stranger Things is a Netflix series written by the Duffer Brothers. It starts out in November of 1983 in a small town in Indiana. 12 year old Will Byers mysteriously disappears. The small town of Hawkins comes together to search for the missing boy as strange things begin to happen around the town. This Sci-Fi series pays homage to 80 pop culture with references to Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Stephen King, and a good number of Star Wars references.

There are 8 episodes in this entertaining series. Winona Ryder plays the mother of Will and does a great piece of acting. Matthew Modine plays Dr Brenner, the lead person at the lab in town that seems to be the soars of all the crazy happenings in town. There is a great cast of 12 year olds who play Wills friends and also 16 year olds who play the older siblings. The series is not terribly horrifying, but entertaining to say the least, especially if you lived through this time period. I was 8 years old in 83 and I was from a small town, so everything this show has was from a time when I was growing up. The clothes, the vehicles, and the houses brought me on a time travel back to a great time in my life.

There was one scene I caught that did use a prop that I would not have been able to have back then. The kids were playing with a toy Millennium Falcon, the only problem was that it was a 2005 version. It was quite obvious, but I’m not sure if it was intentional. Maybe it is setting up some sort of time travel for season 2. Oh well I’m not sure there will be a season 2, but I think they did a good enough job and left it open enough, plus the story would be interesting if the kids aged with the story. 1984 lets go.
