“Remembering Hollywood Icon Richard Roundtree: A Tribute to a Legend’s Remarkable Career and Legacy”
Hello everybody. Yesterday, Oct 24th we sadly lost one of Hollywood’s greats, Richard Roundtree. Born in 1942 in New Rochelle, NY Roundtree would drop out of college in the early sixties and pursue an acting career. Roundtree started modeling and doing commercials in the early sixties and would do stage performances before he hit it big. In 1971 Roundtree landed his most famous roll as John Shaft in the hit movie Shaft.
There would be 2 more movies Shaft’s Big Score and Shaft in Africa, along with a 7 episode TV show, and 2 modern movies with Samuel L Jackson that Roundtree would also be a part of. Roundtree would go on to a long career including his last movie Thelma which is in post production. Roundtree is in many great movies such as George of the Jungle with Brendan Fraser as Kwame, 2008 Speed Racer as Ben Burns, and was in the criminal thriller Seven along side a stellar cast of Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, Gwyneth Paltrow, R Lee Ermey, Alfonso Freeman, and Jennifer Mueller.
Roundtree made several appearances in popular TV Shows over the years including, The Love Boat, CHiPs, Magnum P.I., Murder She Wrote, A Different World, MacGyver, Beverly Hills 90210, Bonanza The Return, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes, Chicago Fire, and the 2022 Cherish the Day. These are just a few of his rolls over the years. Roundtree touched so many lives in Hollywood there will be sadness throughout the community of friends, family, and fans. His legacy will live on through all of his great work over the mast decades. RIP Mr Roundtree.
