Revisiting the 1985 G.I. Joe Armadillo Mini Tank – A Compact Classic!

Story By Mitchell Smith

Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m checking out the 1985 G.I. Joe Armadillo mini tank. 1985 sported some pretty awesome vehicles from the A.W.E. Striker to the Snow-Cat, and the Ferret to the holy grail U.S.S. Flagg. There were many awesome playsets like Check Point Alpha to the Cobra Bunker along with the GI Joe Battle Platform that was essentially a Joe base that was frequently attacked by the Cobra Moray in the cartoon.

So many awesome figures and vehicles came out this year and overshadowed a cool mini tank. Not the Mauler from 1985, but the Armadillo. This one seater has tons of detail and made for a small quick attack vehicle that could go in tight spaces. The turret spins and the cannon moves up and down giving it versatile attacking power. This also gave a chance for a modern 25th Steeler to be released in an affordable set in 2008. I think this would be a great idea for a classified Armadillo with a Steeler. Size wise I think this would work for those who have limited space for large vehicles.

Overall this is a really cool vehicle and deserves a bit of love. Who had an Armadillo as a kid? Make sure to check back next week for the next discussion at The Outpost.
