Simone Biles: A Story of Resilience and Redemption at the 2024 Summer Olympics
Story by Mitchell Smith
Hello everybody, the 2024 summer Olympics are in full swing. The competition is fierce and the competitors have a chance to highlight their hard work and dedication. Simone Biles who was born in 1997 in Columbus Ohio was widely criticized in the last Olympics for backing out due to mental stress. In a world measured by grit and determination, mental health is commonly over looked and seen as a sign of weakness. Biles who was placed in foster care as a toddler, was eventually adopted by her biological grandfather and his wife.
They introduced Biles to gymnastics at age 6 and she was a standout right from the get go. Biles spent the next 2 decades training and competing for the ultimate goal , a spot on the Olympic gymnastics team. Although Biles was successful in the 2016 games, her career was tainted in 2021 when she underperformed and backed out all together.
I’ll be honest I was one of those people that thought she was weak and should not have been representing the U.S.A. Fast forward to 2024. Biles who came in under wide scrutiny showed her resilience and unmatched talent. I’m happy to see Biles bounce back and be at the top of her game on the biggest stage in the world. Have a great week everyone.
