Today we look at the G.I. Joe Cobra Officer, whose PMS is “Infantry” and SMS is “Artillery, Intelligence”. From a military perspective that is three branches, which would be difficult to achieve. But maybe Cobra trains their officers just enough that they are “jack of all trades” and not necessarily a master of any. It also lists on the officer filecard that they are martial arts experts, masters of disguise, deceit, and demolitions. Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at a 1988 G.I. Joe figure that I feel is under appreciated, “Hard Ball“. Hardball was part of the yearly sports figure that Hasbro started doing in 1985 with Bazooka. I did not have a Hardball back in the day, but this is a really cool figure. Today’s featured G.I. Joe is Grunt (my first Joe). Grunt is listed as “Infantry” for PMS and “Small Arms Armorer” and “Artillery Coordinator” as his SMS. The codename “Grunt” to me signifies that he has always been just a “grunt”. However with the addition of small arms armorer and artillery coordinator that to me would indicate he is more than just a typical “grunt”. An “artillery coordinator” sounds very much like a US Army MOS 13F Fire Support Specialist. These are the soldiers that sneak in close to enemy lines…

Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at a G.I. Joe figure from 1989, Downtown. This is a solid character that I believe is under appreciated. From what I can see he was slightly used in the cartoon and comics. I had the original Mortar soldier Short-Fuze and he was awesome.
