THE POP EXPOSE – Remembering Tim McCarver!

Story By Mitchell Smith

Hello everyone, today we look back at the amazing career of Tim McCarver. He was born in 1941 in Memphis Tennessee. McCarver played the catcher position and would win 2 World Series with the St Louis Cardinals. He played minor league ball at my neighbor the Rochester Redwings and in 1959 at the age of 17 signed with the Cardinals. His career would last till 1980 and he went into broadcasting right after.

Al Michaels told a story this morning on the Dan Patrick show how Tim had come to California to do a game and being from the east coast was not used to earthquakes and Tim grabbed his leg during an earthquake so hard that he left a scar. Al called him the John Madden of baseball and went on to say how much of an outstanding person Tim was inside and outside the broadcast both. Tim passed away from heart failure and certainly left his mark on sports world and all he interacted with. Did you grow up enjoying the broadcasting of Tim McCarver? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
