THE POP EXPOSE ‘SCRAP IRON’ By Mitchell Smith!

G.I. Joe was a big hit right from when they came out with the 1982 straight arm figures. There were only Cobra Troopers and Cobra Commander at the time for the bad guys to defend the world against. 1983 added a couple signature Cobra characters with Destro and Major Bludd. 1984 was a big year for Cobra and its lineup of enemies. The backstories of deceit and betrayal started to develop. Many great staple characters came out this year. Storm Shadow, Firefly, The Baroness, and one of my favorites Scrap Iron. Scrapie was one of the main characters in the cartoon and was highlighted in a couple issues of comics.

I was a 9 year old boy when this came out. My brother got him as a gift. Scrap Iron was a cool little figure at the time. His missile launcher was a neat weapon. The color scheme of his uniform just worked so well and of course he has a unique scar that made him stand out as rough and tough. It made it look like he had been through some rough times and here he stood still able to battle. He probably isn’t the most popular and gets overlooked sometimes but this is one of my favorite characters.
