“Time Warp Alert: Hasbro Unleashes ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’ Nostalgia Blast – ’70s Style Figures Revealed!”

Prepare for a blast from the past as Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace hits its 25th anniversary next year! Hasbro is set to transport fans back in time with an exclusive multi-pack featuring six iconic characters from the 1999 film. Gizmodo has an exclusive sneak peek at these ’70s-inspired Retro Collection figures.
The set includes beloved characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Amidala, Darth Maul, Jar Jar Binks, and a Battle Droid. This Retro Collection pays homage to the original Kenner Star Wars figures from the 1970s, featuring five points of articulation and minimalist paint and accessories, capturing the essence of the ’70s era. It’s a nostalgic journey with a touch of modernity, considering The Phantom Menace’s 1999 release.
Each figure, except Amidala, comes with its own accessory: Kenobi and Jinn wield lightsabers, Binks and the Battle Droid carry blaster rifles, and Maul brandishes his iconic double-bladed lightsaber. Packaged in a box reminiscent of Kenner’s vintage Star Wars packaging, each figure is individually wrapped in a retro-styled cardback. The entire set, priced at $60 USD, is set to hit shelves in the spring of 2024.
As the first new Star Wars movie in over fifteen years, The Phantom Menace, directed by George Lucas, garnered massive anticipation in 1999. The film follows Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi on a diplomatic mission to Naboo, leading to encounters with the Trade Federation, Queen Amidala, and the enigmatic Darth Maul. Despite mixed reactions at the time, a new generation of fans has embraced the prequel trilogy.
Collider’s Thomas Butt even argues that Phantom Menace “shares the closest resemblance to Lucas’ overarching vision and ultimately operates as the most purely cinematic” among the prequels. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the Retro Collection Phantom Menace multipack, taking fans on a nostalgic journey through the galaxy far, far away.
