G.I.Joe ‘Crimson Twins’ Review by Mitchell Smith!

Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at the G.I.Joe Cobra Crimson Twins. Hands down my 2 favorite Cobra figures from 1985. My brother got these 2 and I spent countless hours sending these 2 on adventures. I remember playing in the back yard in my snow suit with just the lite from the kitchen window. They were scaling the two propane tanks we had for our kitchen stove. It was the tall portable tanks, the 5 foot tall ones. Once they made it to the top they shimmied across the windowsill and took a peek at what mom was cooking for dinner, then infiltrated the house and sat on the dinner table as I got some good grub. Those were the days.

Anyhow, they reproduced the original characters in 2002, and they also used the mold to make a figure with a mostly Crimson Red outfit the same year for a Conversation exclusive. The following year they were given a new modern mold with an all new look with an all red uniform with a few black highlights. These two came with helmets and a helicopter. I have never seen the helicopter. Xamot’s scar is very faint on my figure but it is there. In 2005 they were released as a TRU exclusive in a Crimson Guard pack that included Firefly, Crimson Guards with a removable helmet and one of the twins in a suit. You had to buy 2 packs if you wanted both twins.
These were really cool sets and I recently was able to track down a Xamot to go with my Tomax I got in 2005. In 2008 they made a 25th style comic pack in the classic 1985 uniform, and in 2009 they used the same mold for the 2002 red uniform in another convention exclusive. Finally they did them in a suit in 2017, but this was at the point prices shot to the moon and I couldn’t justify spending that much for 1 figure. I’m not sure why there was never a 12 inch figure but I have thought often on how to make a custom Tomax and Xamot. Many may already have preorders for the 6 inch classic 1985 style Twins, and I went ahead and tried to make the twins in a suit in 6 inch scale.
I think they came out great and hope to get the real deal when they start shipping. Over all the Crimson Twins have always been 2 of my favorite characters and I’m happy overall with the figures I have been able to collect over the years. Who loves the Crimson Twins? What is your favorite version? Make sure to check back for other stories and reviews.
