A Retrospective Look: The 1991 Attack Cruiser – GI Joe’s Oddest Vehicle

Story by Mitchell Smith

Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look back at the 1991 G.I. Joe Attack Cruiser. By far this is one of the oddest looking vehicles in the original Joe lineup from 82-94. This holds 3 figures one in the front cockpit, one behind that and one off to the side. The wheels don’t line up and it makes this vehicle just look odd. The glider bomb however saved this oddity. A bit before its time perhaps but this would make for a great drone launcher.

The glider itself is hard to find complete and unbroken, but there are still some out there. The launching mechanism seems very powerful and I’m curious how far the glider could fly. I found the main shell at the Thrift store for $1, so I couldn’t resist. I do think this would have been really cool in 1991, if the foresight would have been there for a drone but the glider is sharp looking. GI Joe was really great at building concept vehicles in the mid eighties and a drone would have made this a lot cooler in my opinion.

Either way I won’t take anything away from this vehicle, it is a part of GI Joe history and I will appreciate it for what it is worth. Make sure to check back for our next discussion.
