A Nostalgic Look Back at The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – Revisiting Peter Jackson’s Timeless Classic

Story by Mitchell Smith

Today I’m taking a look back at the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. In the late nineties Peter Jackson set out to bring Tolkien’s story to the big screen and 2001 those who had never heard of the story suddenly were able to catch it in the theater. It was a formula that many have used and something Tolkien used to escape the brutality of WWI. Jackson took a story that had been written decades earlier and turned it into one of the greatest trilogy’s of all time. I caught up watching The Rings of Power and decided to watch the original movie as a recap of what the series is covering.

One that brought so much joy to me back in the day that I bought the books and read them, and I was not much of a reader so it was exciting for me to be interested in reading the novels. This movie was revolutionary at the time bringing camera angles to create different sized beings along with cgi and the glories landscapes of New Zealand. Along with grand scenery, powerful performances, and beautiful scores, Jackson was able to create a timeless classic. It has been a few years since I watched the trilogy and it was as good today as it was 20 years ago. Fun fact Aragorn actor Viggo Mortensen grew up in Watertown, NY a small military city just 60 miles north of me near the US and Canadian border.

He graduated from St Lawerence University a school I visited frequently while attending near be college SUNY Canton. Overall this is a great movie and one I enjoy rewatching along with the rest of the trilogy. Have a great week everybody.
