Rumor out today is that Transformers: Age of Extinction Star Mark Wahlberg is on the running for the roll of The Six Million Dollar Man. If you are not familiar with the character, The Six Million Dollar Man was original portrayed by Hollywood Icon Lee Majors in an ongoing Television Series that ran in the 1970’s. Over the past couple decades, there’s been several attempts to adapt The Six Million Dollar Man into a feature-length film. As recently as 2011, Leonardo DiCaprio (“Titanic”) was said to be in negotiations to star with Bryan Singer (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) set to direct, but that fell through. Also in 2011, screenwriter/director Kevin Smith (“Clerks”) adapted his screenplay for The Six Million Dollar Man into a comic book. It was published by Dynamite Comics and was titled, “The Bionic Man.”
Now, tracking-board.com is claiming that the star and director of Lone Survivor will reteam for Universal’s next attempt at making The Six Million Dollar Man film.
“We’re hearing that Mark Wahlberg will star in Universal Pictures’ film remake of the 1970s sci-fi TV series THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. The story follows an astronaut, Steve Austin, whose body is rebuilt with cybernetic technology after a traumatic injury from an aircraft crash.Peter Berg is attached to produce and possibly direct if the project comes together. Harvey Weinstein is also attached in some producing capacity.” – Donna Whitehead
From 1974 to 1978, ABC ran the television series, The Six Million Dollar Man. It feature actor Lee Majors as ex-astronaut Steve Austin. He was severely injured during a test flight and was rebuilt using advanced technology, called Bionics. As you can guess, it cost the fictional government agency, known as OSI, six million dollars to rebuild him. He received bionic legs, arm and an eye. His bionic left eye that can zoom in like a camera and snap photos, and is also capable of night vision. His bionic legs give him the ability to run incredibly fast. His bionic right arm is said to be as strong as a bulldozer. Neat!
