Ant-Man was created by the one and only Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby. He first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27 in January of 1962 as Hank Pym and later that year in September he made his official appearance as Ant-Man in #35. Hank was a brilliant scientist who invented a substance that would allow him to change size. Hank would also have a helmet that would allow him to control ants and use them to help him as he chose to become a super hero and use his power for good. Scott Lang was a thief and he stole Hanks Ant-Man suit to save his daughter from a heart condition. Hank would encourage Scott to reform his life of crime and take on the roll of Ant-Man where he would eventually become one of the Avengers. Eric O’Grady would become the third person to wear the Ant-Man suit but he took it from the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters and set out to use it for his own personal gain.

As a kid I never really got into the Super Heroes, I guess GI Joe was just more accessible. There were a few movies that I can remember such as Chris Reeves as Super Man and a Batman movie or 2. In the past 10 years or so I have become more interested probably because of the large spike of Super hero movies and marketing. Ant-Man has been one of those characters I don’t know much about and already have learned more about him just by writing this article. A few weeks ago I passed up an Ant-Man figure that was really cool, but just out of my price range. Then when my 8 year old told me he wanted to go see the movie coming out Friday the 17th, it sparked my interest and after checking out the trailer I was hooked as well. So, now I hope I come across that figure again, and I hope to be taking my son to see the movie when it comes out next weekend.

The concept is really cool for Ant-Man, it was at a simpler time perhaps and a very creative stage for Super Heroes that Ant-Man was created, now he will get his big shot on the big screen. I think the Avengers have been successfully portrayed on the big screen and really brought to life, I don’t know a lot about Ant-Man and his back story so I think for me the movie will not disappoint. It looks like it will not disappoint even for those Ant-Man fans. So I hope to make it out this weekend and I know for me my Ant-Man envy is growing already.
