THE POP-EXPOSE ‘L Frank Baum’ (Wizard of Oz) By Mitchell Smith!

Lyman Frank Baum was born May 15th 1856 – and passed away on May 6th 1919. Baum was an entrepreneur and an author best know for writing the Wizard of Oz. Baum who was born right here in Central New York in the town of Chittenango. Still today there is a yellow brick road and every year they hold an Oz fest to celebrate Baum and the Wizard of Oz

The 1939 movie adaptation of Baum’s book has become a staple in our culture. Everyone knows the story and many other movies and novelties have become of the story. On top of 14 other Oz novels in the series, Baum wrote 41 other novels, 83 short stories, and 200 poems. Baum was also an entrepreneur, actor, screenwriter, and film producer. He founded the Baum’s Castorine co which specialized in axel grease. The company still operates today making lubricants for factories. 

The Tin Man’s oil can in the Wizard of Oz has been traced back to the Baum’s company Frank started. Frank was an amazingly talented person and left his impression on the world. On his death bed he awoke from a coma briefly and spoke his final words to his wife Maud “Now we can cross the Shifting Sands.”
