The POP-EXPOSE ‘The Immortal Princess Leia’ by Mitchell Smith!
The recent death of Carrie Fisher has raised a number of questions about the direction Disney will take on the next 2 Star Wars films and any spin offs that would include the Leia era. Although it appears Fisher had finished her filming for Star Wars episode 8, that leaves a door wide open for the end of 8 and all of 9. Do you kill off Fishers character, does she simply fade away into the back of the franchise, maybe she rides off into the sunset. Leia did come from the one who was supposed to bring balance to the force, so she could become a Jedi spirit, right? Maybe Leia stays with the franchise as a CGI character or maybe the unspeakable, Fisher gets replaced by another actress and Princess Leia lives on in episode 9. Some of the other characters are already geared up to pass their rolls on to younger actors.
As Disney lays down the next few years with the Han Solo story, Boba Fett Story, and many speculations on which character will be next, how about Princess Leia? She would most definitely get a new actress to play her self from infant, to toddler, and up through her teen years. Replacing a person who was known better as Princess Leia then Carrie Fisher is easier said then done though. The fan base will cry, complain, maybe even faint.
This day in age Hollywood most certainly could get an actress and make her up to look like Fisher. Lets face the truth, even in the Force Awakens, people who had not followed Fisher over the past 30 years were shocked to see that Fisher had aged and wasn’t that 19 year old girl in the Death Star prison hold. We got used to it and excepted the fact that Princess Leia was aging and new young characters would have to take over the franchise. That was Lucas’s plan from the get go though wasn’t it? To show the circle of life. The story by the book, the beginning, the middle and the end, even though he started with the middle. Even as a kid in the 80’s were information didn’t leak and spread like it does today, we talked about the production of 9 Star Wars movies. There was always that knowledge there that the plan was for this story to be that big. Never the less Princess Leia was Carrie Fisher as much as Carrie was Princess Leia. We have to say goodbye to Fisher, but we will never have to say goodbye to Princess Leia.
