If you wondered how much longer the American Public was going to buy into ‘The Simpsons‘, the answer is a few more years. Fox has made it official that they have renewed the show for multiple seasons. Fox has already made some early renewal orders, and this week the network announced that its longest running comedy, The Simpsons, will be back next season. But that’s not all. Instead of just picking the show up for next year’s Season 27, The Simpsons will also be back for another round during Season 28. This isn’t the first time the show has been renewed for more than one season, but we’re still glad it’s happening.
The Simpsons has been on the air for 26 seasons, and while the numbers are down from the show’s heyday, the animated comedy does steady enough in the ratings on Sunday nights that there would have been no reason to think it would get cancelled prior to today’s announcement. As the linchpin in Fox’s Sunday Funday lineup, The Simpsons averages 5.3 million total viewers when counting Live and same day ratings, which isn’t shabby. Also, in a time when network ratings are faltering, The Simpsons numbers are steady with last year.
The comedy’s been so successful that Fox has capably used the show to build a well-regarded comedy lineup on Sunday nights that formerly went by the moniker Animation Domination, but now includes the live action shows Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Last Man On Earth. Speaking of the rest of the Sunday lineup, most of Fox’s shows have already been given the greenlight for next year. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last Man On Earth and Bob’s Burgers.
That means the last holdout in the Sunday night lineup is Family Guy, and you would think that also-veteran series will also earn a renewal order sometime this month. We’ll let you know when Fox makes a decision on Family Guy. Of course, there are quite a few non-Sunday programs that the network has yet to decide on. If you’d like to see what else has been renewed at Fox, but also any of the other big networks, you can peruse our updated network rundown of cancellations and renewals, here.

There are still a few more episodes you can tune in for during Season 26. The latest season will bow on May 17. In the meantime, you can catch new episodes of The Simpsons on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET, only on Fox. Or catch the series via Simpsons World.
