Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers was formed in 1976 and they performed right up to Tom’s death in 2017. Petty was a huge influence on the music world and this was the first and last band I saw in concert. I went to see him in 1992 right after his Into the Great Wide Open album was released. This was such a great album and it was right at the end of my childhood Joes. The Great Wide Open was one of the first albums I bought with my own money and Songs like “Learning to Fly”, “Kings Highway”, and “Into the Great Wide Open” bring me back to my younger days and remind me of setting up some great G.I. Joe such as the 1989 Rock & Roll, Gnawgahyde, and especially remember the 1989 Deep Six that my dog chewed up the helmet a little bit.
I still have the figure and the helmet still fits pretty good, and of course when I see the teeth marks I remember my dog. I also went to see Tom Petty in 2017 on July 3rd. This is the last concert I have gone to see. Petty had a lot of great albums over the years and so many memorable songs. He was in full gear in the video are and he had so many memorable music videos. I know I miss him and all the great music that still may have poured out of his soul. I’m not sure if the Heartbreakers still do any performing but it would be cool to see them again in concert with maybe a few other lead singers that could match Petty’s talent. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will always be one of my favorite bands and they will always have a special place in my heart. Do you like Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers? Let us know AFTER THE JUMP!
