G.I.Joe

‘2002 G.I.Joe Vehicles’ Discussion By Mitchell Smith!

Welcome to the Outpost. This week I’m taking a look at the 2002 G.I.Joe vehicles. G.I Joe was heading toward a major relaunch of Joe and Cobra vehicles. This was a year some vintage repaints were released as well as some new designs. I was working 3 jobs at the time and my wife and I were trying to start a family so I did not have any of these. First up is a repaint of one of my favorite vehicles growing up The Warthog. It was renamed the Night Rhino and looks really cool. The grey missiles actually would look really awesome on the original, but I do not own this version. Maybe I’ll try to snag some off Marketplace. Next up is another classic repaint.

The red Rattler is really cool looking and goes with Wild Weasel’s red uniform, but I think it would have been genius to give WW a blue flight suit. I love the Rattler and it just looks great in any color. They did another repainted 1992 headquarters. I like this base and I have a couple of them, but it seemed like they used this a lot as a repaint. Maybe they had a lot of extras laying around. The Brawler is a camo colored Hammer with a giant spring loaded missile firing gun on top. This is a cool vehicle and if the large gun is not your cup of tea you can remove it. Looking at this as a 10 year old the gun on top is as awesome as the rest of the vehicle. Destro’s Dominator is another repainted. I love the original vehicle and this one looks cool, but I’ll take an original over this one. The Rock Slid is a repainted Polar Battle Bear with huge gun attached on the back.

I like the original better but the color scheme on this one is cool. If the gun can be taken off, this is an awesome repaint on a classic vehicle. This year also had a good number of newly designed vehicles. The Night Attack Chopper looks awesome. I’d like to see this one in hand. I love helicopters and this one looks like it would be very cool to have. The Assault Quad looks like a cool four wheeler, but once you have the Ferret it’s hard to top that. Maybe they should have designed it after a Yamaha Banshee, then it would have been awesome. The Cobra Fang 3 looks a bit odd. I give them credit for trying to reinvent an awesome mini helicopter, so it does have a bit of a cool factor to it. The Cobra Mantis Sub looks pretty cool. I feel like this could have given the Devilfish a lot of problems, but the Whale may have been able to take a blow from her. The Cobra Hiss IV looks pretty gnarly. I know everyone loves the original version but this one is very unique and I think it looks pretty cool.

This would probably work well transporting Cobra Commander with original Hiss Tanks guarding it. The Sand Razor is a cool dune buggy. I’m not sure it holds up to the AWE Striker but nevertheless a cool new design. Last but not least is the Convention exclusive Crimson Strike Team Hiss. Just an original hiss painted red. This one is cool and I believe there is a modern 25th style released that is very similar. Over all this was a good year and for fans I think they felt that G.I. Joe was back and ready to start hunting down some of these awesome vehicles. Who has any of the 2002 vehicles? Which one is your favorite? Sound off AFTER THE JUMP and let us know! Make sure to check back for our next discussion.
