‘G.I.Joe 2021 What do you expect?’ Discussion by Mitchell Smith!

Welcome to the Outpost. We pulled the E-break and slide sideways right into 2021. This week I’m not going to talk about what we have or what we had, rather I want to touch on what we want to see coming down the pipeline for G.I.Joe in 2021. 2020 made a feeble attempt to distribute 6 inch and 3-3/4 inch figures and vehicles. Surprising enough I was finally able to get an A.W.E. Striker after Christmas Grrrrrrr. First I would like to say I think the lines may have been dampened by Covid pushing back the release of the Snake Eyes Movie. So as we push forward maybe we will see more figures and vehicles. I’m sure many of us would love to see some new figures at retail. The 6 inch figures that were release did not sit on pegs long.

They were like trying to find toilet paper. If you got to the store right when they were stocking you were lucky and if you didn’t you were SOL. Looking forward I think the 6 inch line will survive for a while but if there is poor distribution like there was in 2020, people will give up on this line. I’m hoping both lines survive and we can get some great figures. I few I would love to see in the 6 inch line are Shipwreck, Wet-Suit, and Leatherneck on the Joe Side. For the Cobra side The Crimson Twins and Dr Mindbender are on the top of my list. As far as 3-3/4 inch go, I think they can tap into the late eighties and 90’s. Maybe release some of the hard figures to find from 2010-2020. I’d love to see some Dollar General figures again. 12 inch might be a stretch.

I love the 12 inch line and it would be cool to get some figures like Scrap Iron, The Crimson Twins, Dial-Tone, Serpentor, and well my list could go on forever, but I think the 12 inch style may be a thing of the past. We all know the Snake Eyes movie is coming at some point, but will this be enough to sell merchandise to a younger crowd to keep the line going. I think the average age for most of the fans is in the 30-50 year old range. Should a new animated series be in the works? Could G.I. Joe go in the direction of Star Wars and have a live action show. There could be a new character or a less know character such as SGT Savage who starts the relaunch of the franchise. It could work I think. Savage could be the old man on the block and recruit some young talent. IDK, I’m just thinking it would be cool to get some sort of show to follow as the Star Wars franchise is exploding with TV shows.

What kind of G.I.Joe stuff do you want to see coming in the near future? Do you think a live action show would fly? Sound off below and let us know! Make sure to check back for our next discussion.
