G.I.JOE ‘Shipwreck’ Discussion By Mitchell Smith!

Welcome to the Outpost. I hope everyone is getting through this crazy time. Today I’m checking out one of my favorite G.I.Joe characters from 1985. I can remember it like it was yesterday. I had just turned 10 and I got 5 bucks so I picked out 2 Joes. Footloose and one of my all time favorites Shipwreck. I was so excited to see some awesome Joes.

I had the 12 inch Joes and a few of the 3-3/4 inch but the 85 Joes were all pretty cool. I don’t believe Shipwreck had appeared in a carton yet, or at least I had not seen him in any, so I didn’t know much about the character at the time, I just thought he looked really cool, and had cool weapons, and a parrot. Shipwreck has the classic sailor blues, but I loved the pistol that came with him, more of a pirates pistol. Then there was his anchor that looked like it could do some serious damage. Last but not least I loved that he came with a parrot and Polly would prove to be a huge character especially in “Cobra Claws are Coming to Town.”

Shipwreck had a 2 part episode as well, “There’s No Place Like Springfield”, which is one of my all time favorite episodes. The salty sailor was a staple in the cartoon and he was often the stem of the problem, but he always had his heart in the right spot and was always willing to fight for his fellow Joes. Is Shipwreck one of your favorite Joes? Let us know AFTER THE JUMP. Check back tomorrow for our next G.I. Joe discussion.
