G.I. JOE UNDERAPPRECIATED FEATURING BACK-STOP!
Story by Mitchell Smith
Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at a G.I. Joe figure and character that I think is under appreciated. 1987 Back-Stop. This is one I wanted as a kid but never got. A few things stood out to me and made him really cool. First off I loved his removable helmet. This was right around the time my father bought a couple ATVs, and helmets were a really cool thing. Back-Stops helmet was really cool and reminded me of what we were looking at in the Yamaha store. I really liked the color scheme of his uniform, and what really stood out for me is that he was from Montreal.
This was the closest city from my home town. I don’t remember him in the animated series and there was just 1 version of him, well until 2017, where they released a modern version with no removable helmet and no vehicle. I don’t like to be negative but Hasbro made a lot of the modern figures over priced and really poor quality. Back-Stop would have been a cool character to give his own episode, and really would be cool to see in a reboot. I won’t hold my breath on seeing Back-Stop in any fashion of animation or action figure. I picture him and Cross-Country working together a lot. Both of these would be cool drivers to release in Classified scale but my days may run out before I see that. Who had Back-Stop as a kid? Make sure to check back for our next discussion.
