Welcome to the Outpost. 1986 was a year for G.I.Joe, where it would be hard to top the 1985 lineup. But, this year produced so many great vehicles, it was kind of like MJ’s and the Bull’s first 3Peat. The 2 years had very awesome and unique vehicles and I love both years very much. First up is the Conquest X-30. I had one of these as a kid and I absolutely love it. I wish I would have grabbed a couple more of the modern ones when they went on Clearance at Target, but I didn’t. The Devilfish is one of my favorite small boats. This one is just a staple vehicle and easy to army build.
The Havoc is a great concept vehicle. This does not look like a traditional military vehicle, but I had one as a kid and it is one of my all time favorites. The Tomahawk is a very cool helicopter based on the Chinook, this is one of the greatest helicopter G.I.Joe ever produced. The Triple T was a cool vehicle. The greatest part was this came with SGT Slaughter. The L.C.V. Recon Sled is a cool little concept motorbike. This may have been better with movable front wheels but overall it is a neat little vehicle. The Firebat was used a lot in the cartoon so this was over do when it came out. The Cobra Stun was a new concept vehicle and was used in the cartoon. It looks a little ridiculous but after watching it in the cartoon, this one is one I have always loved. The Cobra Hydro Sled was a small vehicle. Nothing too fancy but it served it’s purpose.
Serpentor’s Air Chariot is a cool little vehicle and came with one of the greatest characters Serpentor. I’m sure a lot of you know my story on the Night Raven, hands down one of the best if not the best Cobra Jet ever. The Thunder Machine is Thrashers personal custom car. I had one as a kid and this one is total badass. The SwamPfire is a cool Dreadnok vehicle made to fly or drive on the water. The Dreadnok Air Assault and Ground Assault are all repainted vehicles but are all pretty cool. I like the green and black better then the red and blue but both are cool repaints of classic vehicles.
The L.A.W, Outpost, and Cobra Surveillance Port are all cool little sets and can be used in various adventures. Last but not lease Cobra finally gets a base with The Cobra Terror Drome. I never have owned a Terror Drome, but I have seen one. This is a pretty big base and a very cool design. I would think this is up high on collectors lists, and it is one that’s on my bucket list. Over all 1986 gave 1985 a run for its money and this is one of my favorite years for G.I.Joe. What is your favorite vehicle from 1986? Sound off AFTER THE JUMP and let us know!
