My final installment in this series of G.I. Joe sub-team articles hits today. The Hasbro team has done such an excellent job creating new characters that fit so well into the lore while also turning out to be outstanding figures. I absolutely love it. Wolf Spider is my favorite new figure, but there are plenty of great ones. When it comes to the D.I.R.E. Tech crew, though, there’s also some reuse of older parts and designs—and it works incredibly well. When Crystal Ball first came out, I was a little…

By Destro Designs-Viper Den Studios Everyone knows how I feel about Python Patrol, especially after the previous article. It’s an incredible extension of the Cobra side of the battle and is super indicative of Cobra itself. But without question, my number one favorite G.I. Joe sub-team is Night Force. The team itself is based around a super-elite squad that handles the things that go bump in the night. They conduct operations so important and so sensitive that they have to use the cover of darkness. Bane can think he owns…

Story by Mitchell Smith Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at the 1993 G.I. Joe Mega Marine Monstro Viper. Mega Marines are a bit of an acquired taste, at least probably more so for the older Joe crowd. This is a line I knew nothing about until I got back into Joes in the mid 2000’s. The Monstro Viper is even more of an oddity along a military based toy line. I do get the pull though, to a 10 year old in 1993 these were probably…

Bringing ARAH to Life: The Case for a Faithful Live Action GI Joe Movie

Story by Mitchell Smith Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m talking live action G.I. Joe films. Specifically the characters and their uniforms. I really wanted to see a live action movie where the characters such as Shipwreck, Scarlett, and Doc look and act like the original ARAH cartoon series characters. I would also love to see live action Crimson Guards, Alley Vipers, and Iron Grenadiers, etc, etc! The Marvel movies have been a staple in cinema and television the past 20 + years because they took what people loved about…

Story by Mitchell Smith Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look back at the nineties as a whole but especially G.I. Joe. The colors started getting brighter, and funky mixed matched uniforms were a norm. Many people have complained about the figures and how they looked non military. Dissecting the pop culture at the time really makes GI Joe a real time capsule and nineties fashion was really captured in them. I was in high school from 90-94 and fashion took on a new look as we broke…
