Why Aftermarket 3D Printing from My Brothers Is So Important to Collecting and Toy Photography

It’s no secret how I feel about my brothers, Matt from Mo’s Mind Custom Design and Chris from Sys3DArsenal. I always dedicate a portion of my podcast to their creations for a lot of reasons. One, they’re both incredible dudes I’m proud to call brothers. Two, they make some of the coolest freaking stuff I’ve ever seen.

They both offer different products that actually dovetail together nicely. I know Matt scales some of his vehicles and playsets to accommodate Chris’s signature item, the Mission Crates.

And both have trusted me to represent their products and bring them to the masses through my toy photography. I’ll always love them both for that.

But what they represent is something that takes collecting and toy photography to heights never before seen.

If you’ve ever seen their products, you know exactly what I mean.

I can put together a diorama in seconds using stuff from both guys. Vehicles, crates, safety equipment, slings, shields, exam modules, doorways, and even walls and floors that break down into playsets that are equally modular.

Not everyone has a workshop like me and/or the know-how to do something crazy like build a jungle with a running river in their basement. So, these products are essential for leveling the toy photography playing field.

This is so important for folks with space issues. You can put the Outpost from Mo’s on any average shelf and make a display, or use Chris’s wall, floor, and doorway setup to erect a full-on room, then break it down entirely to fit in a mini crate.

The quality and innovation behind these products are unparalleled. The Atlas by Matt is the largest 1:12-scale vehicle for Classified, and it offers things for the Joes and Cobras that make playing with a crew just amazing.

Heck, have them roll up to a base and load out Chris’s crates into the Outpost or the BARR, and bam—you’re full-on playing with your toys in a way you can’t without them.

And there’s the rub. You’re able to play with your toys like a kid. The playability is just so far off the charts that I can’t go in and out of the studio without grabbing a figure and setting him up real quick.

The playtime calls to me.

I want Scrap Iron to load his Vulcan Cannons into the drone. I want Low-Light on top of the Outpost, eyeing the enemy. I want Lifeline to toss a Grunt onto his red spine board and tether him down for safe transport. I want Mindbender to assess his creation on the O.R.A.C.L.E.

These items straight-up bring the figures to life, as they give them purpose beyond simply interacting with each other.

A team loading up in the custom Armory system or loading out of the Atlas are some of my favorite setups.

Creating things that work so well as extensions of the figures makes collecting even better. Not being made yet? No problem. Someone will make it. The weapon that came with the figure not cutting it? No problem. GridIron has a loadout for that figure.

The passion displayed in these creations is indisputably awesome. It’s really incredible to see someone making things for these figures by guys who love the figures as much as I do.

I feel like we’re spoiled getting the G.I. Joe line cranked up again in this scale, suited for adult eyes and hands. But having these aftermarket items isn’t the icing on the cake—it’s a whole other cake, with extra icing.
