Oh 1990, what a year this was. Times were changing. We were just starting to use computers in school to do reports and what not, and everything was saved to a floppy disc. Cell phones well we called them telephone booths, remember the emergency phone booths on the interstates? War was brewing in the Middle East and George Senior was getting ready to send troops for our first televised invasion of a country. Montana and Rice cleaned house in Super Bowl XXIV, Pistons got their second straight championship, and the…

I recently stumbled upon the Audiobook “Wishful Drinking” written and read by Carrie Fisher. This was a very interesting book. The book talks about Carrie growing up with 2 famous parents. Her mother Debbie Reynolds who was an actress and most famous for her roll in “Singing in the Rain” and her Father Eddie Fisher who was a singer and actor. Eddie was most popular in the 1950s, and was in the headlines when he left Debbie for actress Elizabeth Taylor. The couple were the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston of the times…

The NES hit shelves in the US in 1985. I remember renting the system from our local grocery store. I mostly played Mario and Zelda. When the Super NES hit in 1991 this was the best thing since sliced bread. I had a ton of games and I had major battles with my brothers and friends. My son and I recently played Zelda A Link to the Past. Back in the day it took me and my 3 brothers playing round the clock trial and error to figure out the…

Cool Runnings is a 1993 film about the first ever Jamaican bobsled team. It was loosely based on the true story about the real team that competed in the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, AB. The film is very funny and very inspirational. John Candy plays the coach of the team and this was the last film Candy was able to watch with himself in it before his death. Much of the story was made up to create drama in the movie, but the real Jamaican team did start out practicing on…

The Last Dance is now on Netflix. This 10 episode documentary follows Michael Jordan and the dominating Bulls in the Nineties. Not only does it look at the players, but also looks at the coaching, staff, front office, fans and families of many of the players. I got into sports in general in the late eighties and nineties. The Bulls run was early on in my teen years. I didn’t have a favorite basketball team at the time and the Bulls seemed too good to hop on the bandwagon. It was easy…

Recently I started watching season 1 of the 1962 hit show The Beverly Hillbillies. This was a staple show of my childhood, but I have never watched it from the first episode straight through. The show started out in black and white and switched over to color in the mid sixties. This show was just brilliant all…

Who did it better Robin Williams or Will Smith? Disney’s Aladdin came out back in 1992 and my older brother dated a girl with a 3 year, so I spent lots of time watching this movie on VHS with that little 3 year old. I didn’t mind though as this is one of my favorite movies. One of the biggest attractions in this movie was the singing, the story, and the Genie played by the late great Robin Williams. Williams is the Genie. He brought this character to life and there will never…
